Sails Literacy Series - developed by leading New Zealand educationalists and authors Jill Eggleton and Jo Windsor.
The Sails Literacy Series is the perfect resource for Guided Reading and Writing, Reciprocal Reading and Independent Reading. The engaging visuals and subjects will motivate your students to read for pleasure and for information.
At the Advanced Fluency level, text forms are further developed (eg. argument/debate). The sequence of difficulty has been carefully structured to provide the more fluent reader with texts that present new challenges and further reading mileage.
Advanced Fluency also includes the double page spread on pages 18 and 19 of each book where, the specific structures of the text forms are explained step by step for children as a model for their own writing.
As in the previous levels, the books employ humour and designs that feature a strong visual impact to excite and hook the young reader in.
The texts incorporate:
- more complex concepts, such as formal diaries, rules, reviews, written debates, forms, biography/ autobiography
- more complex sentence construction
- an extended vocabulary
- an exploration of literary devices, such as metaphors, alliteration, similes, etc.
- more complex graphic information.
