Author biography

Series authors:

Jan Bell has worked as a teacher and teacher trainer for the British Council and Bell Educational Trust in the UK and in various parts of the world. Amongst her publications, she is co-author of the Matters series, Expert series and GOLD First for Pearson, and Face2face Advanced for CUP. She also writes for Cambridge ESOL.

Roger Gower has worked in senior management positions for International House, London, and Bell Language Trust, Cambridge. As well as extensive teaching and teacher training experience throughout the world he was also co-author of the Matters course series (Longman), author of Pastinto Present (Longman), and co-author of the Expert series (Pearson). He is currently a schools’ inspector for Accreditation UK (British Council) and Reviews Editor of Modern English Teacher.

Megan Roderick first taught EFL in the UK and hassince spent 25 years teaching and writing in Greece, where her wide experience of teaching students of all ages and abilities – both at her own language school and elsewhere – has informed her writing of EnglishLanguage materials. She is a qualified secondary school teacher with an MEd in TEFL. Megan has authored or co-authored a wide range of publications including secondary grammar courses, Michigan ECCE and ECPE Exam Practice books, Primary materials (Our Discovery Island) and Exams courses (Cosmic B1, Activate B1+, Expert Proficiency) and the brand new Gold Experience. Her particular interests are the use of grammar as a vehicle for meaning, the process of conveying humour through the manipulation of language, and bringing the language alive through dialogue and story.

Carol Nuttall is an EFL teacher with over 20 years experience, teaching mainly in Greece, where she has made her home. She has specialised for a number of years in ESOL examinations, and is also an oral examiner for Cambridge. For the last ten years, she has been writing EFL materials, with a strong focus on preparation for ESOL exams. She is one of the authors of Expert Proficiency, a brand new course designed to prepare students for the revised Proficiency exam (CPE).
