About the authors

Irene Fountas and Gay Su Pinnell, who began as Reading Recovery trained tutors (by Marie Clay),  have been producing world-class literacy learning and assessment tools for over twenty years, amassing a loyal following internationally.

From Guided Reading to Guiding Readers and Writers to  Teaching for Comprehending and Fluency to Benchmark Assessment System (BAS) and Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) System, Fountas and Pinnell have created a cohesive and coherent set of tools to make teaching efficient and transformative, allowing teachers to work in highly effective ways with students and learn more about literacy teaching and learning as they do.
